Jack Carlson bought a blacksmith shop
from J.C. Jones in 1945. Jack did some body
work in this shop for awhile (around 5 years)
until he got the John Deere dealership
around 1950. He had the shop for a total of
35 years when he sold the building to Lowell
Andersen and Larry Reynolds in the fall of
1980. This building is located block south
of the grade school on the east side of the
street. In September of 1980 Lowell and
Larry formed a partnership and started a car
repair business, naming it "L&L Sales and
Service." They did some clean-up work,
repainted and put in a new floor drain and
sewer system. Their first day open in their
new business was September 22, 1980. In
1982 they added on a 16x40 new addition on
the north side of the shop. In this new
addition they stored their parts, air compres-
sor, rebuilt engines, had a work bench in
there, and were able to work on vehicles in it
if necessary. They did tune-ups with carbure-
tor rebuilding, oil changes, did complete
radiator service, also some body work and
paint jobs. They also sold oil and tires and
new and used parts. They would tackle
almost any kind of work that needed done.
The economy the last few years has been
pretty rough on the ranchers and farmers, so
they, like all other businesses intown, had to
take the bad along with the good.

Lowell and Judy have 2 children, Terry
Lynn (18) and Kevin Lyle (16). Larry and
Donna have 2 sons Kelly Dean (23) and Jodi
Lee (18). Donna was the bookkeeper for
"L&L". Lowell and Larry were in business
together for almost 7 years. At this writing
L&L is in the process of dissolving the
business, due to the economy. Lowell and
Judy are planning to move to Ault, Colorado
where Lowell will manage a garage for Gary
White. Larry plans to stay in Mullen.
