Charles Elliott, Myrna Boyer, Bud Elliott, 1982
I was born at Thedford, Nebraska Novem-
ber 18, 1915 to my parents, Clarence and
Bertha Revere. We lived on a ranch, six miles
northwest of Hecla, where I received my early
education in a country school. Most of the
homesteaders were selling out and moving
away, by the time I was ready for High
School. With them went most of my friends
I had made during those twelve years. Some
of them I never did see again. The family
moved to the Adam's place, seven miles
northwest of Mullen, in May, 1929.
Charles Elliott was born at McCook, Nebr.
on October 8, 1905 and lived most of his life
in south Cherry County, along with his
parents, Ira and Alice Elliott. We were
married July 6, 1937 by Rev. Lee Boyer, in
the Methodist Parsonage, in Mullen. We
lived the first two years of married life on the
Aldrich place, eight miles northwest of
Mullen. The place was sold to John Kraye in
1940 and we moved a mile north to the Hyatt
place that we purchased. This was our home
for the next thirty years, and our five children
were born to us there. They all attended a
country school in Cherry County, along with
the Sullivan, Cotant, Christie, and other
families.
Joyce Maxine was born 1938; Ira
Lewis "Bud" 1940; Myrna Jean
1942; Mary Alice 1946;
and Janet Darlene 1958. She was the
thirteenth baby to be born in the new Mullen
Hospital.
Joyce taught three years in rural schools.
She married Bob Phipps of Whitman. He lost
his life two years later in a rodeo accident at
Gordon, Nebr. There is a son, "Bob" by this
marriage. She worked in the Mullen Clinic
following his death, later married Floyd
Huddle of Mullen, they have two sons,
Gordon and Dale. She married Ed Deterding
of Arnold in February 1986 and resides on a
farm south of Arnold, Nebr.
Bob attended college in Lincoln. He
married Christy Winkler, of Holdrege and
they have three children, Mathew, Mark, and
Sara. They live in Holdrege and he is
employed with Speedway Trucking. Gordon
married Jerri Priest of Ainsworth and they
have a son, Jesse. He is employed on a ranch
for Hugh Sherman near Brownlee. Dale is
certified in restaurant management and is
employed at Taco Bell in Lincoln.
"Bud" is retired after twenty-five years in
the Air Force. He married Marilyn Sonnen-
felt of Mullen. They live in Great Falls,
Montana and are parents of two children,
Mark and Cheryl.
Myrna attended Personell Training in
Omaha, returned to Mullen and worked in
the drug store for several years. She married
Connie Pete Boyer of Mullen. They have two
daughters, Shannan and Holly. Shannan is a
beautician in Grand Island and Holly is a
Junior in High School.
Mary married Don Williams of Grand
Island where they reside. She is employed as
a beautician. They are parents of two chil-
dren. Dawn Michelle passed away at the age
of six years. She was a victim of a rare and
incurable disease, Meta-chromatic-luko-
dystrophy. Rick attends school in Grand
Island.
Jan married Lynn Horwart of Burwell.
They reside in Deshler. They have three
children, Leslie, Lyndsay, and John.
We have leased the ranch since 1970, when
we purchased a farm five miles northwest of
Burwell. We moved in August of that year
and Jan finished her schooling in Burwell
Schools. She worked in the Burwell cafe
during summer vacations. We are all gradu-
ates of Hooker County High School with the
exception of Jan. We moved back to Mullen
in September of 1976, and are living in
retirement.
