GINKENS, HENRY AND MARTHA (WATSON)

Henry Austin Ginkens Family, June 1938. Austin, Artie (Haines),
Hattie (Morgan), Bessie (Bear), Lelah (Barneby), Lloyd, Mother Alice,
Beaulah (Entsminger).

Henry Austin and Martha Alice (Watson)
Ginkens and family came from Wayne
County, Iowa to eastern South Dakota, then
moved to Oelrichs, So. Dakota. In 1911 they
came to Hooker Co. He bought 473 acres from
Charles J. and Florence Bill for $1200. and
240 acres from Marie Reynolds. They had six
children, Bessie, Beulah, Artie, Lelah, Austin
and Lloyd.

About 1918 Henry went back to their place
in Oelrichs, So. Dak. and he passed away
there Nov. 18, 1924. Martha Alice and sons
Austin and Lloyd remained in Hooker Co.,
Austin joined the Army and served in W.W.I.
Lloyd and his mother stayed on the place.

A daughter Beulan and husband Ted
Entsminger came here from Oelrichs, So.
Dak., and lived on the John Barnebey
homestead. They had three children Phyllis,
Arlen and Ardys. Beulah taught the Jesse
Furrow school one year. They moved to
Colorado to home-stead there. The boys were
both in W.W.II.

Another daughter Artie and husband Ray
Haines came from Seymour, Iowa, and lived
on a place one and half miles south east of her
folks home, Henry and Martha Alice. They
had 3 children Lorna Gene (Fowler), Robert
and Richard. They moved to Mullen in 1924.
Artie took care of Dr. Walkers confinement
cases, which was the care of mothers and new
babies. In 1936, they moved back to Seymour,
Iowa. Robert and Richard joined the Army
and served in W.W.II. Lorna moved to
Alaska, where her husband was in construc-
tion work. She has made this her home.

A third daughter Lelan came and teught
school. She married John Barnebey in Mul-
len, and they had three sons, Leland-died at
birth, John Jr., and Roger. in 1939 they
moved to Curtis, Ne., so the children could
go to High School there. Lelah passed away
there in Dec. 1942.

John Jr. was in the Air Force in W.W.II,
came home and married Phyllis McCubbins.
Later he had polio and in 3 days passed away
July 27, 1948.

Roger served in the Korean War.

Austin returned from W.W.I, and married
Maude Shields. They had three children, two
daughters Margie (Burgess), Lucille (Towne)
and a son Eugene. When Austin and Maude
separated, he moved a house close to Lloyd's
home and Austin's mother came to live with
he and the children. They left the ranch
about the time Margie started High School.
They spent two years with Lloyd Ginkens
and then moved to Curtis, Ne. with the
Barnebeys to attend high school there.
Margie's lives at Ashby, Ne. Lucille at
Maywood, Ne., and Eugene in Oregon.

In summer of 1943, after Lelah's death
Austin Ginkens, John Barnebey and his son
Roger came to Mullen, and made their home
with Lloyd and Sara.

John was 75 years old when he passed away
in Febr. 16, 1963. Austin passed away Febr.
22, 1978 at the age of 82 years old.
