Fedora Humphrey, youngest daughter of
Guy and Ethel (Pierrard) Humphrey was
born near Drakesville, Davis County, Iowa. I
came to Mullen in the fall of 1936 and lived
with my Uncle and Aunt, A.G. and Clara
Humphrey. I graduated from the Mullen
High School in 1938.
In 1940-1941 I taught my second year of
school north of Mullen at the A.B. Cox school
in Cherry County.
I left there to attend the Hastings Beauty
Academy in Hastings, Nebraska. I received
my Cosmetology license in 1941 and contin-
ued to be active in this profession at both
local and state levels until 1980, having semi-
retired at this time.
In 1941 I married Carl E. Groenewold of
Hastings and have one son, Carl E. Groene-
wold, Jr.
It has been said that one leaves the
Sandhills and never cares to return or they
leave and leave a bit of their heart. I left a bit
of my heart.
