HAMMOND, ELMER LAYFAYETTE AND ALLIE PEARL (GROVER)

Elmer and Pearl Hammond about 1911.

Elmer was born in Johnson County, Kan-
sas, Sept. 10, 1879 to Samual Gifford Ham-
mond and Eva Elizabeth Salisbury. He had
4 brothers Charlie, Bert, Earl Harden (adopt-
ed by the Harden family), and Ray (who was
killed with a horse at age 9). Samual died at
Arapahoe, Nebr. in 1889 and is buried in an
unmarked grave in a cemetery there. His son
Ray is also buried there. Eva married Geo.
David Phelps and to this family was born a
daughter Mamie (Patterson) and a son Ted.
Times being so hard Eva could only keep her
youngest son with her so at age 11 Elmer
found chores for room and board for himself.
He worked at several jobs and locations
before coming to Hooker Co. Nebr. by
horseback to the Chauncey Tucker ranch,
from there he filed on a homestead in the
south west corner of Hooker Co. on June 19,
1911 and for registration in 1915.

Pearl was born in Wright Co. Iowa near
Eagle Grove on Sept. 10, 1890 to Fred R.
Grover and Hattie Eleanor (Blaine). She had
2 brothers, Will and Carl and a sister Maude.
The Grover family moved to Minn. (the Red
River Valley) near Mentor, Minn. around
1893. The children of school age attended
Rural School there for several years. They
returned to Iowa and Pearl attended school
at Sioux Falls, S. Dak. before coming to
McPherson Co. Nebr. where Fred filed for a
homestead and Pearl attended school in
Mullen, Nebr. where A.G. Humphrey was a
teacher.

Elmer and Pearl were married April 8, 1908
at Tryon, Nebr. and to this family 3 daugh-
ters Gladys May Howard, Eva (Canida)
Wallace, Laura Simonson and a son John
Elmer (Jack) were born. Gladys born Jan. 9,
1909 married Robert E. Howard and to this
family 2 sons and 3 daughters were born.
William Bruce married Phyllis Furrow and
they have 8 children, William Lyle, Terry
John, Lloyd Elliot, Ronald Eugene, Jean
Leanne, Patricia Mae, Debra Lynn and
LeRoy Dale. Gladys son Bob and wife live in
Oregon and have 2 daughters. Gladys daugh-
ter Betty Ann and Jack Faam have 6 children,
4 sons and 2 daughters. Glen and Claudia
Robinson have 2 sons, Michael and Bobby
and a daughter Kimberly Daam. Betty's 1st
daughter Fay Pearson (John) have 4 children,
3 sons and 1 daughter. Tom and Brenda
Pearson have a son Justin. Don Pearson and
wife Jennifer Melissa Cricle. Betty's 2nd
daughter Kathy and Ray Mamk have 3
children Andy, Cole and Elizabeth. Betty's
son Jack and Tammy Robinson have 5 sons
Jack, James, Artie, Justin and John. Betty's
son Jerry and Cindy Fay have 3 sons (twins)
Richard and Paam and Bobby Lee. Jim and
wife, Tara Fay, Glady's 2nd daughter, Mary
Stone has 3 children Robin, Tom who has 2
sons and Lucille who has 2 sons. Glady's
youngest daughter Eva Phelps has 6 children,
Bill has 3 children, Gladys has 5 children, Jim
has 2 children, Ivan has 3 children, Iris Irvin
has 2 children, Irma has twin sons.

Hammond's 2nd daughter Eva (Canida)
Wallace has 4 children. Gayle and Alvin
Moore have 6 children, Roscoe and Barbara
Moore have 4 children Donavan, Melissa,
Dustin and Tiffany. The 1st daughter Anna
and Eddie Skinner have 4 sons Jeramy,
Randy, Michael and Brandon. The 2nd
daughter Judy and Wesley Skinner have 2
sons Adam and Patrick and 1 daughter
Amber Rae. Gayle's 2nd son Rodney and
Kelly Moore have 3 girls Christina, Stacy and
Stephene. Gayle's 3rd daughter Lynn has a
daughter Salina and a son Desmond. Gayle's
Tam and Ellen Moore have 2 daughters.

Eva's son Wayne and Dee Canida have 2
children, Jeff and Angela Canida 2 sons Ty
and Elisha. Wayne's daughter married Gor-
don Kushner. Eva's 2nd daughter Carol Baca
has 7 children, Joe and Deb Baca have 2 sons.
Faith and Dan Rannish have 2 children.
Carol's other children are Toni, Fred, Shari,
Hope and Michall. Eva's son Elmer and Elsie
Canida have 6 children, Stacy, Lloyd, De-
wayne, Angela, Lanse and Leslie.

Hammond's 3rd daughter Laura married
Bill Simonson and have 6 children LeRoy,
Russell, Karen, Janice, John and Harlan.

Hammond's son Jack and Barbara Ham-
mond have 4 children Pam and John Paine
have a son Jason. Jack's son Norman and wife
have a son. Jack's 2nd daughter Noreen and
Marlin Leisinger have 2 daughters. Jack's
2nd son Kent is at home in Lebanon with his
parents.
