Paul Donald Hassett was born in Law-
rence, Kansas on 1947. When
he was 13 years old he moved to Mullen as
a foster child staying with the Fred Kraye
family. Paul also lived with the Charlie Folk
family for awhile while he attended school.
He graduated from Mullen High School in
1967 and attended Kearney State College for
3 years.
Kathie was born on 1949, in St.
Paul, Minnesota. She moved with her par-
ents, Clayton and Janice Wright, to Mullen
when she was three months old. Kathie is the
oldest of seven children. She has five sisters
- Karen, Diana, Debbie, Maureen, Laura, and
one brother, John. Kathie attended all her
school years at Mullen and graduated in 1967.
She also attended Kearney State College,
graduating in December of 1971 with a BA in
Elementary Education.
Paul and Kathie were married on June 20,
1969, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Mullen. They lived in the Kearney area while
attending college. Their first son, James
Patrick, was born in Kearney on
1971.
In 1971, Paul and Kathie returned to the
Mullen area. Kathie taught school north of
Thedford for 2 1/2 years. Paul served in the
National Guards for nine years. While living
on a ranch south of Whitman, their second
son, David Paul, was born on 1975.
In December, 1975, Paul and Kathie
purchased a business in Mullen. They renam-
ed it Paul's Liquor & Drive Inn. On
1978, their third son, Mark Joseph, joined the
family.
Paul and Kathie own a home in Mullen.
Paul drives a school bus route and enjoys
driving the school activity bus. They also
have cattle on the side. Paul and Kathie
continue to run the Drive Inn while being
active in school, church and community
affairs.
