James Glenburn Hodges was born May 7,

Ina Myrtle Johnston was born November
24, 1894 at Lesterville, Missouri.
Glen and Ina were married August 2, 1913
at Lesterville, Missouri and celebrated their
63rd wedding anniversary in 1976 at which
time they were crowned as the Pioneer King
and Queen at the Hooker County Fair as the
couple married the greatest number of years.
Glen and Ina, with daughter Virginia, came
to Mullen, Nebraska in 1916 with Edgar and
Effie Wadlow and son Walter. Ina and Effie
were sisters. During their stay in Mullen Glen
and "Ed" (as he was known to everyone)
operated the dray service in Mullen.
In 1917 the Hodges family returned to
Lesterville, Mo. where he operated a general
store with his father. In 1921 Glen and Ina
and 3 girls moved to Kirksville, Mo. where he
worked as an engineer for a small track train
in the coal mines. In 1924 the family moved
to Mullen, Nebraska. They drove an open air
Dodge touring car and shipped their furni-
ture and other belongings in a railroad car.
Their family consisted of four (4) daugh-
ters, Virginia L. Eriksen (deceased), Glenna
J. Buchfinck, Whitman, Nebraska, DeLacy
Annette Emmons (deceased), and Margie
Lou Crossley, Anacortes, Wash. They have 5
granddaughters, 4 grandsons, 13 great grand-
daughters, 10 great grandsons, 1 great great
granddaughter and 1 great great grandson.
After coming to Mullen in 1924 Glen was
engaged in garage work until he retired. He
worked in Stickley's Garage (now Macke's
Store), also for Mathews Chevrolet Company
and Milander Motors. He was honored by
Chevrolet Motor Division for 35 years of
continued service as an auto mechanic.
During his years in garage work Glen made
many long trips to ranches to repair hay
machinery and other machinery needing
service.
Glen passed away in Oct. 1980. He had
been an active member of the Order of Odd
Fellows for many years.
Ina is a member of the Baptist Church in
Lesterville, Mo. where she joined when a
young girl. She has always been a very
devoted mother and companion to her fam-
ily. Their needs came first with her. She
sewed for the children, baked all their own
bread, had a large garden and canned the
surplus vegetables for winter use. One of her
specialities was her home made dinner and
cinnamon rolls. She has made many dozen for
bake sales, family dinners, funeral dinners,
church activities and friends.
After the death of their daughter, Annette,
Glen and Ina took their granddaughter,
Teresa at age 10 years. She lived with her
grandparents until she completed high school
and finished her L.P.N. training.
Ina's hobbies, until arthritis made it
impossible, tatting and crocheting. She has
made many beautiful items which she has
used or given as gifts. In later years she has
had to give up her hobbies as well as extensive
reading, due to arthritis and failing eyesight.
Ina has continued to live in her own home,
alone, since the death of her husband. She
continues to take care of her home and her
own personal needs, even though at times it
is a struggle. She wants to be independent as
long as is possible.
