ISOM, CHARLES T. AND MATTIE (CARR) AND NELLIE (BOYER)

Charles T. Isom, 1938.

Charles Isom was born in Grayson County,
Virginia to John and Martha Edwards Isom,
August 3, 1880. He lived there with his
mother and brother, Arthur. He taught
school and worked some in the coal mines
near where they lived.

In 1900, he came by train to Mullen,
Nebraska. He followed Arthur who had
migrated here a few years ahead of him.
Charles went ot work on the 101 Ranch as
driver for a Mr. Allen, who managed the
ranch. There's no record of how long he
worked there. Later he took a homestead
north of Mullen.

Charles and Mattie Carr were married in
1909. They lived on their homestead where
four of their six children were born. Charlie
farmed some but mostly was busy carrying
the mail from Curlew Post Office to Mullen
and back.

In 1920, they moved to what was known
then as the Pool Place. He continued carrying
the mail. Two more children were born to
them there.

During the time he lived at the Pool Place,
he became interested in raising Registered
Hereford Cattle.

In 1927, Mattie and infant daughter,
Wanda Rose, died leaving Charlie to care for
the other five children, Boyd, Virginia, Ivan,
Paul and John.

In 1928, Charlie and Nellie Boyer were
married. A son Lee, was born to them in 1929.

In 1935, they moved to Mullen where he
went to work at the Mullen Co-Op. Charlie
continued to work until he retired because of
poor health.

Charles died at the Pioneer Memorial
Hospital in Mullen January 6, 1960.
