John and Marlene Jones
John M. Jones was born, the second child
of Boyd Jones and Mary (Keller) Jones, on
1938 at Hyannis, Nebraska. With his
parents, 1 sister and 2 brothers, he moved to
Colby, Kansas in 1947. The Jones family
moved back to Hyannis in 1952 where John
was graduated from Hyannis High School in
1956. John worked on ranches and the REA
on weekends and summers during school. He
worked for the Dumbell Ranches several
years and used horses to put up hay. During
his school years, he also worked for the
lumber yards in Ashby and Hyannis where he
helped unload many railroad cars of coal and
gravel. John received his Bachelor of Arts in
Business Administration degree in 1960 from
Chadron State College. He was graduated
from the University of Colorado School of
Banking at Boulder, Colorado in 1974.
H. Marlene (Lincoln) Jones was born the
fourth child of Merrill Johnson Lincoln and
Hilka A. (Millsap) Lincoln on
1937 in Mills County, Platteville Township,
Iowa on her grandfathers farm. The farm was
near the town of Pacific Junction, Iowa. She
moved to Whitman, Nebraska when she was
in the 3rd grade and later moved to Hyannis
with her parents, 5 sisters and 5 brothers.
Marlene was the only cook for a hay crew of
seven at the age of only thirteen. The next
summer she decided working in the hayfield
was easier than cooking so she drove mules
in the morning to mow and drove the stacker
team in the afternoons. After that summer
she worked several summers driving a side
delivery rake for her brother-in-law who did
custom baling. She was graduated from
Hyannis High School in 1955 and then
attended Chadron State College. She taught
school for 10 years.
John and Marlene were married at Fort
Collins, Colorado on August 16, 1959. They
made their home in Hyannis where John
worked for the lumber yard. Their first child
Timothy was born on 1960 while
the family lived at Hyannis. On April 15, 1961
the family moved to Mullen where John
started work at the Bank of Mullen. Kelly
Suzann was born on 1962 and
John Matthew was born on 1964 at
Mullen. All three children were graduated
from Mullen High School.
