Susan Ora (Susie) Bowers was born on July
30, 1901 at Mullen, Nebraska, the daughter
of Webster and Martha (Ripley) Bowers.

She attended school in Mullen and gradu-
ated in 1919. There were six in her graduating
class.

After graduation Susie went to work as a
bookkeeper for the Senk Mercantile Com-
pany and worked there until 1936. She then
worked for their successor, the Johnson
Mercantile until 1956. At this time she
became a bookkeeper for Mathews Chevrolet
Company, a job that she held until 1961.
After that she continued for several years as
a part time worker. During this time she also
had an interest in some cattle for several
years and later she and her brother Kent, had
a small chicken farm.

Susie was an avid church and community
worker and was never too busy to help others.
She was a member of the Methodist Church
and the WSCS. She held many offices in both
as well as being a faithful worker in the
Sunday School. She belonged to the Rebekah
Lodge and filled many offices there.

She was a perfectionist in everything that
she did, whether at home, church, or at work.

In the late 1960's Susie began having heart
trouble and in 1972 had a pacemaker implant.
In the spring of 1974 she went into the
Pioneer Memorial Rest Home and passed
away on August 18, 1974. She is buried in the
family plot in the Cedar View Community in
Mullen.
