was set up in the motel. He is the son of John
L. Munn and Frances A. (Van Zandt) Munn..
He has lived on the hager Ranch (now Munn
Hereford Ranch) all of his life except during
his school years when they resided in Mullen
during the school week. He graduated from
Mullen Public Schools in 1969 and then went
to the University of Nebraska School of
Technical Agriculture at Curtis, Nebraska,
graduating in 1971. He the returned to work
on the family ranch.

Charlie married Sandra Janine Merrihew
(Born 1954) of Ashby,Nebras-
ka, on July 17,1976. Her parents are Robert
Louis Merrihew and Doris Eileen (Easton)
Merrihew of south Ashby. Sandy attended
grade school at the Steven's School District
9A south of Ashby until eighth grade. She
then went to school at Hyannis where she
graduated in 1972. She then took a business
course at Western Nebraska Technical Col-
lege at Sidney, Nebraska, graduating in June
of 1973. Sandy then went to work at Ogallala
Community Hospital for a year as a night
receptionist. She also worked at the Ogallala
Livestock Auction on sale days penning back
cattle. She went back home in the summer of
1974 and worked in the hayfield for her dad.
That fall she went back to Ogallala and
worked at Cactus Jack's Western Wear to get
some store clerk experience. In March of 1975
a secretarial job opened up at Hyannis High
School so she went to work there until she
married Charlie and moved to the ranch
south of Mullen.

Charlie and Sandy have three children:
Corey John, born 1979, Phillip
Charles, born 1982 and Marla
Louise, born 1984.

Charlie took over running the ranch in the
fall of 1978 after his father was stricken with
lung cancer. In October of 1981, Charlie
bought an airplane and by April 3, 1982, he
had his private pilot's license. With the plane
he is able to keep a closer watch on the wells
and cattle.

Charlie and Sandy started building a small
herd of registered hereford cows in 1977.
They are now able to raise a few bulls to use
in the commercial herd. In 1981, they started
establishing some windbreaks around the
ranch buildings by digging up cedar trees off
of the Dismal River and transplanting them.
More windbreaks are planned in the future.

Charlie served as secretary on the Hooker
County Agricultural Society for six years. He
has also been president of the Hooker County
Airport Authority for the past four years and
was recently re-elected to another term.
