RECTOR, WM. A. AND ALICE (SPECK)

William Alexander and Alice (Speck)
Rector are another pair of pioneers of the
Mullen area. Alice Speck was born March 14,
1883 and came to Nebraska when she was
eleven years old. She lived with her parents
near the Dismal River until she was married
at Whitman, Nebraska on November 14, 1900
to William A. Rector. Mr. Rector was born
October 14, 1860 at Lomar, Missouri.

William's parents and Alice's parents each
filed on a Homestead 11 and thirteen miles
west of Mullen in 1905 and lived there until
1918 when all moved to Mullen.

The Rectors now had one daughter,
Myrtle, born January 23, 1902 and two sons:
William H. born July 14, 1904 and Arthur B.
born July 15, 1911 . The Rectors bought a
combination pool hall and cafe located north
of the present site of Big Lil's. Alice ran the
cafe and William the Pool Hall. Their home
was west of Mullen on the land now owned
by the Vern Buchannans. Myrtle was married
to Fritz Pearson there on Dec. 21, 1921.

Mr. Rector died July 14, 1940 and Mrs.
Rector on Oct. 11, 1954. Both are buried in
the Cedarview Cemetery in Mullen, NE.
