LeRoy Earl Walker was born in Kahoka,
Mo. Aug. 30, 1910, son of Dr. David A. Walker
and Ona Mae Walker (Stephenson). Earl was
brought back to Mullen, Nebr. in 1915 and
he went to Grade School and high school in
Mullen, and graduated in 1928. After high
school he went to Misner School of Fine Arts
in Omaha, Nebr. After that he went to the
University of Nebr. College of Dentistry in
Lincoln, Nebr., graduating with a Doctors
Degree in 1935 and post graduate work at the
University of Minnesota. Dr. Earl Walker
practiced Dentistry for over 50 years in
Mullen and had his 50th Recognition Celeb-
ration by the Nebr. Dental Association in
Omaha, at the Red Lion Inn, March 19, 1985.
He is a life member of the North West
district Dental Society, Nebraska and Ameri-
can Dental Association and two Greek Na-
tional Fraternities, Dr. Earl is also a member
of the Masonic Lodge of Mullen and the Elks
Club of Broken Bow, Nebr.
Helen LaVerna Van Wagenen was born in
Provo, Utah, March 30, 1915. Helen moved
to Lincoln at the age of 12 years and
graduated from Lincoln High School in 1933.
Helen attended Business College at the
University of Nebraska for 2 years and
worked as a special secretary to the Nebraska
Emergency Relief Administration until her
marriage Sept. 10, 1936. Helen married Dr.
Earl Walker and they have three children.
LaVerna Mae born July 21, 1942, David born
1946 and Lana Kay born
1952. LaVerna is married to Jim Coble and
they live on a ranch in Cherry Co. They have
two children, Bill and Lisa. Lana Kay is
married to Randy Peterson and they live on
a ranch near Kilgore, Nebr. they have one
son, Scott David. David is not married and
lives in Santa rosa, Calif. LaVerna went to
Nebr. Wesleyan University in Lincoln. Lana
went to Chadron State College and also is a
licensed beauty technician, graduating from
Lincoln, Nebr. David attended the Univer-
sity of Nebraska and is a Veteran of the Viet
Nam War. When he returned from the war
he went back to the University of Nebraska
and later moved to Santa Rosa, Calif. and
graduated from Sonoma University. The
Walker children all graduated from the
Mullen High School.
The land where the present United Meth-
odist Church was built is an area over looking
the Village of Mullen, in the west end of town.
The view and tranquility made it a good place
to build the new church. The Walker family
presented the land to the church as a gift of
love.
Earl and Helen celebrated their 50th
Anniversary at the Methodist Church on
Sunday, Sept. 21, 1986 with their family and
friends. Earl and Helen are members of the
United Methodist Church.
