Jerry C. and Rosalie Warden married February 27, 1910

Jerry C. Warden was born in Old Town,
Virginia april 7,1864. His mother passed
away when he was very young and the family
moved to North Carolina. In the 1880's he
came to Madison County, Nebraska with a
sister and brother. His sister Margaret
married Alex Reaves. His brother Wiley
taught school and Jerry and his brother
farmed together for a few years. In the 1890's
he came to the Sandhills and worked on the
`101', Spade and Joe Miner ranches. When
the Homestead Act began in the early 1900's,
he homesteaded north-east of Mullen, but
sold his relinquishment before proving up on
it. Around 1907 or 1908, he went back to
North Carolina and Virginia on a visit, while
there he met Rosalie Tibbs at Marion,
Virginia. He came back to Mullen, and ran
a butcher shop and dray. He owned a tract
of land at the north edge of town about where
the hospital and Methodist Parsonage now
sits.

Jerry and Rosalie were corresponding
during this time. In February of 1910, she
came to Cherry County and filed on a
homestead. They were married February 27,
1910, in Valentine, Nebraska. They moved to
a Kinkaid shack near the Homestead 40 miles
north-west of Mullen. Jerry began freighting
lumber from Mullen to build a home. This
trip took 3 days while Rosalie stayed alone.
One evening she went to a well nearby after
a pail of water, strange cattle came in to drink
and a bull on the fight kept her in the wind-
mill tower until after dark before finally going
back to the other cattle. During this period,
it was open range with very few fences and
was 6 miles to the nearest neighbors. They
farmed and in 1913 he got a chance to buy a
hay meadow, so he sold what he owned in
Mullen. In 1917 they added more land where
they moved and lived until his death in april
27, 1928. Rosalie passed away July 8, 1939.
Their eight children grew up on this place and
continued to run it until 1946 when it was
sold.
