BRADLEY, ROY AND ANNIE (KIRK)

Roy and Annie Bradley


Issac Roy born to Charles R. Bradley and
Bettie Cena Gustin on June 11, 1903. He was
born in Thurston County near Bancroft,
Nebr. As a small boy he moved to Cherry
County, Nebr. with his parents, two sisters
and one brother. Roy attended school in the
Delight School District in Cherry County. He
later worked for area ranchers.

Annie Lee Kirk was born to Jacob Gran-
ville Kirk and Rosa J. (Ward) Kirk March 19,
1892 in Grayson County, Va. Annie was the
9th child in a family of eleven children. She
attended school at Bridle Creek and College
at Radford, Va.

Annie's older sister, Minnie Lou Kirk, had
come west, worked in Lead, So. Dak. Later
she came to Cherry County and married A. B.
Cox. In 1920 Annie came west to visit her
sister and started teaching school.

Roy ranched and carried mail for the
Hecla-Hire Route from the time they were
married until it was discontinued July 1,
1932.

Roy and Annie were the parents of two
sons. Darwin LeRoy born 1925 and
Orville Kirk born 1927. Annie's
health began to fail in the early 1940's. Annie
passed away March 20, 1949.

Roy and Orville were on the ranch until
Orville married. Roy then went to the
Leonard Eriksen Ranch north of Mullen,
Nebr. He worked there several years. In 1952
Roy married Pauline Evans. She had three
children, Leota, Betty and Jody. In 1958 they
bought the Sandhills Motel in Mullen and
moved to town. He carried mail south of
Mullen for 3 1/2 years, until his health failed.

Roy passed away Dec. 10, 1961. Both Roy
and Annie are buried in the Cedarview
Cemetery in Mullen.
