Lloyd LeRoy Buckfinck, Jr., eldest son of
Lloyd and Glenna Buckfinck, was born on
December 25, 1941. Lloyd Jr., known as Roy,
attended Mullen Schools and graduated in
1960. He attended the University of Nebras-
ka at Lincoln and graduated with a Bachelor
of Science Degree in Business Administra-
tion in 1964. On graduation day he was
commissioned an officer in the United States
Air Force. The following month after com-
missioned, Roy and his family moved to
Lubbock, Texas where he completed Air
Force Flight School and became an Air Force
Pilot on August 5, 1965. He served in the
Republic of Vietnam as a helicopter pilot
where he was decorated for his action.
Following numerous stateside assignments,
he served in the Republic of Panama for three
years finding himself involved in numerous
activities concerning the civil war in El
Salvador. Roy retired on August 1, 1985 after
completing twenty-one years of service. He
was decorated with the Distinguished Flying
Cross; the Air Medal with six oak leaf
clusters, and the Meritorious Service Medal
with two oak leaf clusters. His daughter Niki
is married and living in Lincoln with three
children. Donn, his son, is currently a student
at the Kansas City Art Institute. Roy is
continuing his education at the University of
West Florida in Pensacola where he is
studying to become a high school history
teacher.
