HOOKER COUNTY EDUCATION ASSOCIATION

The Hooker County Education Association
was formed in the late 1950's with Kathryn
Sweeney as its first president. In the past it
has held special annual meetings featuring
speakers on reading and other educational
topics. At times it has honored retiring
teachers, promoted staff/board relations, and
negotiated with the board for teacher con-
tracts. In 1987 it put on a faculty play using
the proceeds to fund a scholarship for a
graduating senior. The first play was such a
success that in 1988 it sponsored the second
annual faculty play and awarded a second
scholarship. This association continues to be
an impelling force in the educational quality
in Hooker County.
