Early Water Town - 1916 (capacity 4200 gal)
New Water Tank on a hill south of Mullen, Built
1985 (Capacity 250,000) gallons
December 1, 1916 Hooker County Tribune
"Mullen's water plant is getting near the
service point, work on the tower having been
completed and the new 10 inch well made
ready for the pump. The new hole was tested
out with a 6 inch cylinder Monday and it
furnished water at the rate of 4200 gallons per
hour for several hours. The work of N.W.
Randall, contractor for the well, is being
highly spoken of by the village board, and
there is no question but that it will be
accepted under the provisions of the con-
tract. As soon as the well is connected with
the water mains, the pump and engine placed
in position and the housing to cover it
completed, Mullen will be placed in position
to boast at having adequate fire protection,
sprinkle lawns, and ask a substantial reduc-
tion in existing insurance rates, and a thous-
and and one other things that only cities of
our class and standing are permitted to
enjoy."
A new water tank had long been needed to
adequately supply the water need of Mullen.
One was built in 1985, month of August. It
has the capacity of 250,000 gallons. The old
tower was not of any use now, so it was taken
down the winter of 1985-86.
