DRY VALLEY CEMETERY IN SOUTH CHERRY CO.

In the early 1900's ministers went through the Sandhills holding Tent meetings. The people around Curlew, Nebraska decided they needed a church. Robert Boyer gave land in Dry Valley, north of Mullen, for a cemetery and a church, a location of tranquil-lity and beauty. Teddy Carr was the first person buried there before the church was built.

The cornerstone for the Dry Valley Church was layed on Saturday, June 3, 1911. Mr. E.L. Holland was a stone-mason who laid the blocks. The church was dedicated on Decem-ber 8, 1912, and is located, Section 6, Township 20N, Range 32 W. in Southern Cherry County, north of Mullen. The cemetery is located just behind the church to the north. About 20 families had more than one member of their family buried there and 24 other single graves. Records show that the last person buried in the Dry Valley Cemetery was in the year 1947.

Some of the deceased have been removed and burial in other cemeteries have been made over the years.
