BRAMER, WILLIAM H. AND SARAH

William Herman “Bill'' Bramer was born October 1, 1899 at Stamford, in Harlan County Nebraska, to Frederick and Rika Ott Bramer. He graduated from Dunning High School in the Class of 1917 and further from the Grand Island School of Business. Bill came to Mullen in 1918 to be associated with the Citizen's State Bank. This Bank was located in the building later owned and occupied by the late Dr. D.A. Walker. After the closing of this bank Bill ran the Coopera-tive Credit Association in a building on the corner of First and Washington later occu-pied by the late Steve Yagadich's Boot Shop. In 1936 the Abott Company of Alliance obtained a charter for the present Bank of Mullen and Bill Bramer was asked to head the bank as Cashier. During his tenure of banking, Bill trained many of the men who were later to become the leading officers of the various Abbott Banks.

Sarah Ann Thomas was born in Nuckolls County near Edgar, NE., on December 2, 1901 to Benjamin Jones and Leonora Wilk-ens Thomas. Sarah graduated from Edgar High School in the Class of 1919 and from Peru State Teachers College, Class of 1921. She taught Home Economics and Science at Yutan, NE., and at Mullen High School before her marriage on June 23, 1924 to Wlliam H. Bramer. She was employed in the office of the Hooker County Clerk and then in the Bank of Mullen until her retirement in 1966. Since “retirement'' she has remained very active – working in many diversified areas. She has been a member of the Order of Eastern Star and United Methodist Wom-en, and worked for these organizations in several capacities.

Bill and Sarah Bramer worked together at the Bank of Mullen plus owning ande opera-ting a small ranch located one mile south of Mullen. Bill retired from banking in 1970 as President of both the Bank of Mullen and the Citizen's State Bank of Thedford. Through the years Bill was involved in many civic activities in Mullen, including serving on the School Board, Town Board, in Commericial Club and any commitee formed for the improvement of Mullen. He was a faithful member of the Mullen Masonic Lodge #282 AF&AM and was instrumental in the build-ing of the new Masonic Temple in Mullen. In his spare time Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling. Bill passed away in Mullen on May 1, 1975 and is burried in the Cedarview Cemetery in Mullen.

Bill and Sarah Bramer were parents of one daughter Marilyn Grace born 1930 at Mullen.
