BURNETT, JOHN A. (ALEX) AND PEARL A. (HICKS)

John A. Burnett was born April 25, 1885 in Ohio and passed away October 25, 1967 in Denver, Colorado. Intered in Mullen, Neb-raska.

Peal A. (Hicks) Burnett was born Decem-ber 30, 1883 in Independence, Virginia. her death was August 24, 1974 in Georgetown, Colorado. She was buried beside her husband in the Cedeview Cementery at Mullen, Nebraska.

Alex and Pearl were married in Hyannis, Nebraska July 10, 1912. To this union three daughters: Margaret L. (Burnett) Ayers, she has two sons, James and Jerry. Altha V. (Burnett) Jackson, one son, Robert. Yvonne Mae (Burnett) Mackey, one son, John.

Pearl moved to Mullen, Nebraska when she was 16 years old with there parents, Charlie and Maggie Hicks and her two sisters, Lillie (Hicks) Glass and Dalla (Hicks) McIntyre. Their first employment was on the `101' ranch, later moving into town and running a family-style restaurant.

Alex came to Mullen from Chicago for health reasons and was employed by Henry Lowe's Hardware Company. His two sisters, Eunice and and Leslie, followed him in a short time and promptly homesteaded on land south of Mullen. Alex's parents, John and Louise Burnett, also came from Chicago to Mullen and lived with Alex and Pearl after their marriage in 1912, on a homestead one-half mile from Alex's two sisters. Alex continued to work for Lowe's Hardware through three generations of Loews, Henry, J.E., Louis and Kenneth.

After retirement, Alex and Pearl left Mullen to live with their daughter, Yvonne Mae, in Colorado, until their deaths.

Pearl and Alex loved Nebraska and all their friends. They experienced the hard-ships of prairie fires, dust storms, blizzards and droughts with the same spirit of hearti-ness and faith of all their friends and relatives.

The early settlers of Nebraska, giving of their strength and determination, left a great heritage for all those who followed.
