ERNY, HENRY J. AND BEULAH


Henry J. Erny was born October 17, 1899 in Hooker County. He was the youngest of five children. Henry had one sister, Lena, and three brothers, Joe, Carl and Frank. The parents were Charles and Louise Erny. Charles Louis Erny was born in 1859 at Beinham, France. When he was 24 he immi-grated to the United States. He settled at Marengo, Illinois. There he met Louise Worner and they were married. In 1890 Charles Erny traveled to Nebraska and returned to Illinois later to move his family to the ranch in southwest Hooker County. Charles and Louise spent the rest of their lives on the ranch. Louise passed away January 11, 1945 and Charles died August 30, 1945.
Beulah was born December 22, 1916, to Elick and Florence Sexton on their ranch in Hooker County. She was next to the youngest of 13 children. Beulah enjoyed growing up and working on the home ranch. On Decem-ber 15, 1936 Beulah and Henry J. Erny were married. They had been neighbors all of their lives, so Beulah moved 5 miles west to the Erny Ranch. Henry and Beulah spent their entire lives within 5 miles of where they were born until Beulah moved to Mullen in 1987. They are the parents of three children. Charlotte was born 1937, Hank,
1938 and Cliff born
1939. February 23, 1955 Charlotte married Bob Benner. They have four chil-dren. Cliff, Patty, Debbie and Vicky. Hank Erny enlisted in the Marine Corps. in 1957 and served for two years. He married Char-leen Meidel Clapper in August 1987. Cliff Erny enlisted in the Army in 1960 and served two years. He married Betty Prentice in 1968 and has two boys, John and Chuck. Beulah and Henry celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary in 1961. Their Open House was attended by all their friends and family. Henry was active in the Stock-Growers Assoc., Old Time Cowboy Assoc. and took part in local activities. Henry passed away February 15, 1972 while arrowhead hunting with one of his grandsons.
